Let’s think about this…
Other than sharing the desire to be profitable, small businesses and big corporations have entirely different motivations.
It doesn’t stop there either. Each have entirely different ways of operating. And many of those ways can be at odds with each other.
I would go as far to say they’re about 180 degrees apart.
When small companies and big corporations work together, the result is often pure frustration.
For the small company, at least!
Then, add some mayhem such as…
- lost business,
- nonproductive investment,
- wasted resources, and
- missed opportunities to name a few.
For small businesses, the first step to overcoming this problem is clearly understanding the differences so you can navigate the natural obstacles and avoid the pitfalls.
Traditional approaches don’t work.
If you’re serious about earning more business from your major customers, you need to understand how they operate, how they make decisions, what drives them, and the multitude of other ways they’re different.
What do you believe are the most effective strategies for small business?
First, you may want to consider a different tack.
Consider engaging a guide with knowledge and insight gained on the other side. Someone who’s been there… working inside big corpa. Someone who can help you navigate the waters.
Do this and growing your business just got a little easier.
What Happens When Small Business Meets Big Business?
Only 20% of small businesses thrive when doing business with major companies. And only 4% of them are crushing it. The other 80% are struggling and of them, 16% are failing miserably.
How would you feel if this happened to someone you know… or if it happened to you?
I have observed over and over again that small businesses almost always want to go for the big fish… for the big win, the big prize. Often, it’s “too much, too soon.”
This is what many believe…
“I need a big corporate client.”
“If I could land a deal with United Airlines, I’d have it made.”
“I just want to work with Google.”
Each of the above is a quote from conversations I’ve had with entrepreneurs. They just can’t help themselves. They leap before they’re ready. They get in the big leagues before they understand that it’s a different game on a different field.
Then they struggle…
Candidly, they get their butts kicked.
They negotiate away any profit they may have had because they cave in under the pressure. They waste their precious time, money, and resources.
And sadly, some will lose their businesses in the process.
But, with the right awareness, insight and understanding… and the right guidance. They can overcome this and 2x, 5x, even 10x their business.
A consistent 10% wouldn’t be that bad, would it? But it’s often not good enough.
Don’t be that company.
Throughout all the years I’ve spent working with small companies from inside big companies… I’ve seen the same thing over, and over, and over again.
Some absolutely nailed it… some struggled… and some absolutely fell on their faces.
Let’s start a conversation and see where it takes us.
We can get this done.
